Moderated by Karla Aguilar

Karla Lorena Aguilar (Nahua-Pipil/Tap Pilam) has worked to foster social transformation through cultural arts and social justice organizations in TX for two decades. Her approach to social and economic development centers cultural empowerment as a catalyst for communities to become more cohesive, cooperative, and organized. As the first Development Director of the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, she’s at the intersection of a deep cultural preservation and wide community development strategy. At NALAC, she’ll continue its valuable work of tilling and fertilizing the philanthropic soil so the current and next generation of Latinx artists and leaders can be supported generously. She’s also a dedicated practitioner of Nahua-Tolteka Indigenous traditions from Central Mexico/Anáhuac and her homeland, El Salvador/Cuscatlán. Karla is an adopted member of the Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation into the Auteca Paguame clan of families. Karla’s core purpose is to restore the health and wellbeing of the Land and her people.
